Spring through my kitchen window

Yes, it is here. This post is quite late but i just to welcome spring with a post. I was surprised to see the tree outside my window suddenly in green. Outside, the sun is warm and everyone is already in shirts and some in shorts! I am still amazed how one day, it’s cold and the next it’s so warm.

I also acquired a ritual in moving here: spring cleaning. I have always used the term figuratively as we don’t really have spring back home… but now, it’s a literal part of my life.

Enjoy the spring ahead!

The Cevennes

Aside from fully operating businesses, one of the resolutions mentioned in this year’s first blog was to explore the region. So for my husband’s birthday, friends came over to join us explore the Cevennes natural park . The weather during the weekend was not one of the best but the landscapes that we saw more than made up for it.

We stayed at the Domain de Pradines that had beautiful rustic houses called gites.

We went to visit Roquefort Village to have a taste of their cheese.

Then we headed to Millau to see the longest hanging bridge in the world.

Finally, on the way back, we drove through the scariest, tight roads I have ever seen in my life.

But not before being amazed by the beauty of the Abimes de Bramabiau.

Finally: Natural Leather Alternative

I finally did something I have only thought about in years. I am finally marketing a natural textile from my country as a natural alternative to leather. I’m calling it NaLA. It’s a gorgeous textile with a beautiful texture and sheen to it and it’s purely made from natural fibers and fully handmade from fiber stripping to weaving to finishing. And on my vision board is Stella McCartney. I know that she is against the use of leather in her designs. And so I think she  might just find this natural textile interesting. I hope our roads cross soon.

I haven’t been around so much as I was doing things that were making me happy. :)  I have been busy working on a blog on immigrant women and entrepreneurship here. And I am also working on a business that sells ethical and natural textiles to designers and artisans here in Europe. See here.  So much to do, so little time. Hope you are doing something that makes you happy too.

New Year’s Resolution

Yes, new year won’t be new year without the resolutions that go with it. So here’s a quick run down of my year’s goals!

Eating well this year is part of the plan. This means eating good and healthy food. To do this, I thought about exploring the mediterranean cuisine which is known for being both. Look out for recipes and stories about them this year.

The second resolution is to get to know the local culture more. Realizing now that I’ll only be in this region for just another year made me realize that I’m missing out a lot. So, this means exploring the different cities, towns and villages in the region, trying out local cuisine (yes, food again!), getting to know more people, learning the language, living the southern-france life, whatever that means.

And finally :

HAPPY 2012!!! CHEERS!!
